Siri

What you can say to Siri on iOS 27 and macOS 27, how projects and columns map to Siri's lists and sections, and the phrases that work on any version.

Kan Do works with Siri in two ways. On iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Siri understands Kan Do tasks natively, so you can create, change, complete, and ask about them in plain language. On any version, a set of built-in phrases runs the app's Shortcuts actions.

Talking to Siri on iOS 27 and macOS 27

Kan Do adopts Apple's reminders schema, which means Siri treats:

  • a Kan Do task as a reminder
  • a project as a list
  • a column as a section

So the things you'd say to Reminders work for Kan Do once you add its name. Some examples:

  • "Add a task to Kan Do called call the plumber tomorrow"
  • "Add a task to my Website project in Kan Do"
  • "Put it in the Doing column"
  • "Mark it as completed"
  • "What's due today in Kan Do?"
  • "Show my Kan Do board"

Siri can create, update, complete, and delete tasks, open a task or a project, and answer questions about what's due. Tasks, projects, and columns are indexed with their titles, notes, and tags, so Siri can find them by name.

A task Siri creates without a project goes to the Inbox. A date Siri hears becomes the due date.

Built-in phrases (any version)

These phrases run Kan Do's Shortcuts actions and appear in the Shortcuts app under Kan Do:

Siri on Apple Watch

"Add a task to Kan Do" works on the wrist. The Watch app provides its own Add Task action with title, subtitle, project, column, due date and time, Alert Until Done, priority, flag, link, and note. Tasks land in the watch's store and sync through iCloud. See Apple Watch.

Siri and the Shortcuts app

The native Siri actions on iOS 27 are separate from the Shortcuts actions, on purpose. Siri gets the simple reminders-style verbs; the Shortcuts app keeps the richer Add Task, Edit Task, Get Tasks, and Complete Task actions with every field. See Shortcuts.

If Siri doesn't understand

  • Say "in Kan Do" or "to Kan Do". Without the app's name Siri assumes Reminders.
  • Make sure Siri is enabled for Kan Do in the system Settings app under Apps ▸ Kan Do.
  • Native task understanding needs iOS 27 or macOS 27. On earlier versions, the built-in phrases above still work.
  • Open the app once after installing or updating so it can register its actions.
Tip

"What's due today in Kan Do?" read aloud while you make coffee is the fastest way to plan a morning.
