#Today

• Board Layout: Today's Sort and Filter menu has a Board Layout toggle that lays the day out as a board, with one column per project (the Inbox first) and the day's calendar events in a Calendar column of their own, the way a project board looks. Cards open, complete, and take the long-press menu as they do on a project board; Sort By, Filter by Tag, and Day Ends At all still apply (user request)
• Day Ends At: Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Day Ends At moves the moment Kan Do's day rolls over from midnight to any hour up to 6 AM. If you work until 3 in the morning, set it to 4 AM and Today keeps today's tasks until then instead of marking them overdue at midnight. Today, Upcoming, the smart-list date filters, overdue, the sidebar counts, the widgets, and "Today"/"Tomorrow" in menus and typed dates all follow it (user request)

#Alarms

• Alarm (iPhone and iPad): a new toggle under Alert When Due in a task's details rings the task as a system alarm, full screen on the Lock Screen with sound even in a Focus, with Stop and Open buttons, instead of a regular notification banner. The first time you turn it on, iOS asks for permission to schedule alarms. Completing or rescheduling the task, here or on another device, keeps the alarm in step (user request)

#Calendar

• A third Scheduled view beside Week and Month: a scrolling agenda of everything dated, grouped by day. Overdue comes first in red, then Today, Tomorrow, and every later day that has a task, a subtask, or a calendar event. Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Calendar Opens In can start the calendar there (user request)

#Repeating tasks

• After Completion: a new option in the Repeat menu counts the next occurrence from the day you finish the task rather than from its due date: "2 weeks after I complete it", with the same Frequency and interval controls as Custom. Completing a task that was due on the 1st on the 20th schedules the next one two weeks after the 20th (user request)

#Comments

• Every task can have a Comments section, under the subtasks and above the note: dated entries, oldest at the top, newest at the bottom, with Created and Completed lines in between. Type in Add a comment… and press Return; right-click or press and hold an entry to edit, copy, or delete it (swipe on iPhone and iPad). The note stays the place for what the task is; the comments record what happened and when (user request)
• Comments are off until you turn them on: Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Task Comments shows the section in every task. Turning it off hides the section again and keeps the comments
• Comments sync with everything else, come along in JSON and PDF exports, and the AI connector has a matching add_update tool
• Mac: showing a task's comments for the first time no longer makes the whole note jump down and back (build 169)
• iPhone and iPad: the comment you are typing is visible as you type it. The composer laid out at zero height, so the placeholder and the text only appeared once the comment was posted (build 170, user report)

#Smart lists

• A Start Date filter for custom smart lists: Has Start Date, No Start Date, Started (the start is today or earlier), Not Started Yet, and Starts Today. "Started" is the list for a big project where every task has a start date: what you can work on now, and nothing that is still waiting (user request)
• A task added from a Started or Starts Today list starts today, so it shows up right away

#Shortcuts

• Get Tasks can find tasks by tag: pick Tags from a list, or pass Tag Names as text, and turn on Match All Tags to require every one (user request)
• New Add Column action: creates a column in a project and returns it. With Reuse Existing on, running the shortcut again returns the column that is already there instead of making a duplicate
• Add Task and Edit Task take a Column Name as text, so a column from a variable drops straight in. Edit Task looks the name up in the task's own project
• Typing text into the existing Column field now puts exact name matches first in the list Shortcuts offers
• A new guide, Managing Projects with Shortcuts, walks through start dates, a Started smart list, tags, and shortcuts that build action boards and date-range boards
• Mac: Open Project and Open Task now go where they say. The app used to read the request only when it came to the front or launched, so with Kan Do already in front nothing happened, and on a cold launch the project request was dropped before the boards had loaded (user report)
• The preconfigured App Shortcuts are now called Open a Project and Open a Task, so they no longer read as duplicates of the actions in the Shortcuts app
• Every action and field in Shortcuts now carries a description of what it does and how to fill it. Siri and Shortcuts use these to offer the right action and to ask for the right value

#Reminders

• Subtask reminders follow the parent task's Alert Until Done: when it is on, each dated subtask's reminder repeats on the same cadence until that subtask is checked off (user request)
• Snoozing a subtask reminder now brings back the subtask's reminder, not the task's, so Mark Done on the snoozed alert checks off the right thing. Snooze Until Tomorrow on a subtask moves the subtask's due date and leaves the task alone

#Sidebar

• Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Show Task Counts for Projects puts each project's open-task count at the right of its row, alongside the existing space totals (user request)

#Notes

• Checklists use the same hanging indent as numbered lists: wrapped lines and long unbroken text stay under the first line's text instead of dropping back to the left edge, and bullets line up with the same text column (tester request)
• A web address pasted onto a checklist line keeps its lowercase start, so it is recognized as a link
• Tab and Shift-Tab nest checklist lines the same way they nest bullets and numbers

#Today

• Completing a task now takes its dated subtasks out of Today and Upcoming with it. They used to stay listed on their own until each was checked off (user report)

#Calendar events

• Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Calendar Events shows the events from your Calendar app at the top of Today and on the Calendar, read-only. Off until you turn it on; pick which calendars to show, by account (user request)

#Voice notes and photos

• Record Voice Note in the note editor and in the Attachments section saves a recording as an attachment. Tap its card to play it right there (user request)
• Take Photo now appears for note images and attachments, not just the cover image (user request)

#Your own fonts

• Settings ▸ Typography ▸ Custom Font lets you pick any font installed on the device for note text. The Text Font choice (System, Serif, Rounded) now also applies to notes written before you changed it (user request)

#Smart lists by column

• Custom smart lists gain a Columns filter that matches column names across every board, so "everything In Process" works no matter which project the task is on. Include or Exclude, like Projects (user request)

#Shortcuts

• Add Task and Edit Task gain Start Date, Start Time, Start Date & Time, and Alert at Start (Edit Task also Clear Start Date), and the Task variable exposes Start Date (user request)

#Link to File

• Choosing a file from Files or iCloud Drive now asks Copy into Task or Link to File. A link opens the current version of the file, on iPhone and iPad in the Files app, so edits made elsewhere are never missed (user report)

#Fixes

• A large Apple Pencil drawing could stop a task syncing with "CKErrorDomain error 2" until it was deleted. Drawings are now sized to fit the sync limit, and Settings ▸ Sync says which item failed and why instead of showing the bare error code (user report)
• Mac: a text color chosen from the system Colors panel (right-click ▸ Font ▸ Show Colors) is kept when the note is reopened (user report)
• Mac: scrolling a long column back to the top no longer stalls the app while link counts are read, which could show the spinning cursor with several columns on screen (user report)
• iPhone: pinch to zoom works while a task is open, and in the full-screen note editor (user report)

#Pinch to zoom

• Pinch anywhere on iPhone and iPad to zoom the whole interface in or out, from 60% to 180%. A small Zoom pill shows the level with a Reset button, and Settings ▸ Typography ▸ Layout has a matching Zoom slider (user request)

#Export as JSON or PDF

• Export a project, a column with its tasks, or a single task as a readable JSON file or a PDF. Right-click or press and hold a project (Export), a column header (Export Column), or a task (Export Task). The JSON is plain and easy for an AI assistant to read (user request)

#Fixes

• Sidebar project, tag, and smart list icons keep their own color while selected on iPhone and iPad
• Fixed a crash at launch on the Mac when sidebar pins arriving from iCloud differed from the ones on the device (crash report)
• Apple Watch: the Inbox no longer shows tasks that have a start or due date, matching the iPhone (user report)
• AI assistants (MCP): completing a task now moves it to the Archive when Settings ▸ Task Completion (or the project's own setting) says Move to Archive, just like completing it in the app (user report)

#Notes

• Tapping an attachment card in a note opens it in Quick Look again on iPhone and iPad. In a note scrolled down from the top, a tap only placed the cursor beside the card (user report)

#iPhone Duo

• Kan Do is Made for iPhone Duo on the App Store, with screenshots of the open and book-pose layouts
• With a task open while the Duo is held like a book, the bar keeps the board's name; it showed a pair of stray marks instead

#Mac

• The Mac App Store release includes 1.6.5's sync fix: a fresh install waits for iCloud to bring down your existing boards before adding the sample Work space, and an untouched duplicate sample board or Ideas tag is removed on its own for a month after the install

#Sync and new devices

• Installing Kan Do on a second device no longer leaves you with two of everything. A fresh install now waits for iCloud to bring down your existing boards before it adds the sample Work space, and it asks iCloud directly instead of relying on iCloud Drive, so a Mac with iCloud Drive turned off waits too (tester)
• If a duplicate sample board, Ideas tag, or Inbox card did slip in, the copy you have been using is the one that stays, and the untouched copy is removed on its own. That cleanup now runs for a month after an install instead of a week (tester)

#iPhone Duo

• Opening and closing iPhone Duo softens the screen while the hinge is moving, the way the Home Screen does, instead of cutting between the closed and open layouts. Holding the Duo part way open keeps everything sharp

#Task details

• On the Mac, Settings ▸ General ▸ Always Show Task Details keeps the task's priority, dates, tags, links, and the rest open in a column to the right of the note every time a task opens, so there is nothing to open first; the pane widens to make room (tester request)
• On the Mac, ⌥⌘I (Task ▸ Edit Task Details…) opens the task's details from the keyboard (tester request)
• ⌘I from the Task menu works again while a task is open: the note editor claimed the key for Italic even when the board had the focus. Italic keeps ⌘I while you are typing in a note (tester)

#Notes editor

• A PDF attached to a note shows its first page in the note, the way pictures do (Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Images in Notes ▸ Larger Previews). PDFs attached before this update keep their file card until they are attached again (tester request)
• A selected attachment card wears an accent frame, so it is clear which card is selected (tester request)
• A card dragged to another spot in its own note moves there; it used to leave a duplicate behind (tester)
• Text typed after a link, or on the line after one, no longer comes out in the link's blue (tester)
• Typing a parenthesis and a space after an area code no longer turns a phone number into a numbered list. 1. in front of existing text still starts a list, and so does a number continuing the list above (tester)
• Text typed beside an attachment card is the note's normal size again (tester)
• On iPhone and iPad, cut, copy, and paste keep links and attachment cards inside Kan Do, and copied text carries its links into other apps (tester)
• A margin under the note keeps the last lines clear of the bottom edge and the close button while you type (tester request)
• Attachments up to 200 MB can be added in the app; the share sheet keeps its 75 MB limit

#Boards

• On iPhone and iPad, tapping Add task while a task is open closes that task and clears its highlight. After Return, the new task is the highlighted one, and on iPad it opens. The column scrolls once, to the new card (tester)
• On the Mac, opening and closing the task pane and scrolling sideways between columns are smoother: the board no longer resizes frame by frame while the pane slides in, and columns no longer redraw on every scroll frame (tester, M1 MacBook Pro)
• On iPad in portrait, the board's name no longer runs under the open task pane

#Moving and selecting

• Moving several tasks at once shows "Moved 12 tasks to Project ▸ Column" with Undo; ⌘Z on the Mac undoes it too (tester)
• The Move to menus keep the app's order on iPad; they read backwards when the menu opened upward from the selection bar (tester)
• Select in the Inbox and in project lists uses Kan Do's own selection circle, so selected rows no longer look completed. Selecting several rows closes the open task, and swiping the task pane away clears the row highlight (tester)

#Recently Deleted

• Restore puts a task whose column has been deleted or archived into the Inbox, where you can see it; it used to come back archived and out of sight. Deleting a column now files its tasks in Recently Deleted first (tester)

#Links

• On the Mac, Edit Link… and Remove Link appear in the right-click menu when part of a link is selected and the click lands beside the selection

#Under the hood

• The Inbox membership check is now constant-time, for Inboxes holding thousands of tasks

#Boards

• Collapse a column from its menu (Collapse Column). A collapsed column folds to about a third of its width and keeps its name, icon, and count readable, with the cards tucked away. Tap it to expand. Cards dropped on a collapsed column land at its bottom. Remembered per device
• Collapsing more columns stacks them in that one strip, top to bottom in board order: two collapsed columns split it in half, three in thirds, and so on. Each block expands, drops, and opens its menu on its own

#Sidebar

• Pin to Top on any project, smart list, or tag keeps it in a Pinned group above the tree, on every device. Drag to reorder the pins; Unpin from the same menu (tester request)
• Add Divider Above on a space, project, smart list, or tag draws a thin line, or a blank gap, above it. Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Sidebar Appearance ▸ Divider Style picks which. Dividers travel with their row when you reorder and sync to your other devices (tester request)
• Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Sidebar Appearance: Show Section Titles hides the Spaces, Smart Lists, and Tags headings, and Show Space Chevrons hides the fold chevron on space rows; tapping a space still folds it (tester request)

#Built-in lists

• Inbox, Today, Upcoming, Flagged, and Calendar can be renamed, re-iconed, and recolored: Customize… in a list's menu in the sidebar, or Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Built-in Lists. Reset to Default puts the stock look back, per list or all at once. Widgets follow the custom look (tester request)

#Links

• Copy Link on a project (its sidebar menu and the board's info menu), a built-in list, or a custom smart list copies a kando:// link that opens it from any other app or note (tester request)
• On iPhone and iPad, selecting text inside a link now offers Edit Link… and Remove Link in the selection menu, and a long press on a link does too. A selection that spans several links offers Remove Links. On the Mac the right-click menu offers the same when the cursor or selection sits in a link, not only when the click lands on it

#Fixes

• A task could open and then refuse to scroll or accept typing on iPhone (one tester). The link pencil's position was re-measured on every scroll frame while the note was not being edited, which rebuilt the editor continuously; it is now measured only while you are editing, and notes with very long single paragraphs lay out far faster
• A TestFlight iPad was shut down by iOS while opening the database during a "prewarmed" background launch (0xdead10cc). When iOS starts Kan Do speculatively, before you open it, the app now waits until it is on screen to open your data

#Smart lists

• New Status filter in the smart list editor: Completed or Archived turns a list into a record of finished work, for a status report or a performance review. The other filters narrow it as usual (tester request)
• Completion Date joins Sort By everywhere, with Earliest First and Latest First
• A Completed or Archived list opens newest completion first, and each row shows when the task was completed
• Swipe an archived task in such a list to Unarchive it
• Widgets showing a Completed or Archived list show the same finished tasks

#Subtasks

• The subtasks list in a task now folds away: tap the arrow at the right end of the Add Subtask row to hide it. The Subtasks pill in the header brings it back

#Settings

• New About tab: the app icon, version and build number, and links to kandotasks.app for questions, feedback, guides, and release notes

#Notes editor

• Checking off a to-do on iPhone no longer brings up the keyboard (tester report)
• A numbered or bulleted item whose first word is one long unbroken run (a URL, a pasted token) now wraps beside its number instead of dropping below it (tester report)
• Reopening a note no longer pushes a short numbered list a digit to the right until the first edit snaps it back (tester report)
• The link pencil on iPhone and iPad keeps its place beside the link after the keyboard or header moves the note (tester report)

#iPhone Duo

• Kan Do is built for iPhone Duo. Held open like a book, the board puts one column on each page with the crease between them; with the sidebar showing, the sidebar fills the left page and the board the right
• A task open on the closed screen stays open when you unfold, and an open task pane stays open when you fold

#iPad

• The full-screen note button and the Drawing tool are back in the task pane (tester report)

#Mac

• Fixed rows in Today and other lists overlapping after the task pane opened (tester report)

#Boards

• Settings > New Board Columns: list the columns every new board should start with, such as Backlog, Active, Done (tester request)

#Widgets

• A project widget can show only the columns you choose: edit the widget and pick them under Columns. Its + adds to the first chosen column (tester request)

#Mac

• Clicking a card on a board could leave Kan Do unresponsive, with icons missing and projects that would not open, until it was quit and reopened (tester report). The click handling that caused it is fixed
• Fixed a crash that could happen while the window was redrawing (tester report)

#Recently Deleted

• Deleted tasks now go to Recently Deleted and stay there for 30 days, with their subtasks and attachments. Open it from the archive box at the top of the sidebar and tap Restore to put a task back exactly where it was (tester report: a long note was lost to an accidental delete and no backup could bring it back). Recently Deleted is kept on the device where the task was deleted
• Undo after deleting a task now also brings back its subtasks, attachments, and location

#Backups

• Export All saves everything to a folder: one file per project, your Inbox tasks, and the pictures and files attached to notes. It is in the + menu at the top of the sidebar, and under File on the Mac (tester request)
• Export Space, in a space's menu, does the same for one space and its projects (tester request)
• Import now takes a backup folder and adds everything in it as new copies; nothing you already have is replaced. It also takes several project files at once
• On the Mac, Import and the other File menu commands now explain when Kan Do needs to restart to finish a scheduled repair, instead of doing nothing (tester report)

#Tags

• A tag created from a task's menu (Add Tag ▸ New Tag…) kept its name only until the app was closed, then went back to "New Tag" on every device (tester report). Names now stay. Tags that already reverted need renaming once: press and hold or right-click the tag in the sidebar and choose Edit Tag

#Links in Notes

• One window for links: the Link button, ⌘K, and the menu on selected text all open it. With the cursor in a link it becomes Edit Link, with the link's text, its address, and Remove Link (tester report: three different link windows)
• On the Mac, right-click a link for Edit Link… and Remove Link. The small pencil that floated beside links on the Mac is gone; it could catch clicks meant for the note. iPhone and iPad keep the pencil
• Changing or removing a link on the Mac can now be undone with ⌘Z

#Archive

• Empty Archive, in the archive box at the top of the sidebar, deletes every archived task at once (tester request). They go to Recently Deleted first
• Settings ▸ General ▸ Delete Archived Tasks can clear archived tasks automatically after 30 days, 90 days, or a year. It is off unless you turn it on

#Mac

• ⌘⌫ in an empty text box no longer deletes the open task. It only deletes a task from that task's own blank title or blank note; in the link window, search, and everywhere else it does nothing. This is how the tester's note was lost

#Subtasks

• A task that already has subtasks now opens with them showing, instead of hidden behind the Subtasks pill (tester request: "really useful but quite hidden"). An empty checklist still stays out of the way until you ask for it
• A long subtask list no longer pushes the note off the screen: the list keeps to under half the pane and scrolls, so every subtask can be reached on iPhone (tester report)

#Task Note

• Complete a task from its note: a circle in the top-right of the header, in line with the title, checks the task off. The note stays open; the task completes when you close it, and the board's Task Completion setting decides whether it stays or goes to the archive (tester request)

#Boards

• Settings ▸ General ▸ Unsorted Column puts the Unsorted column at the far right (the default) or the far left of every board. Changing it moves the column right away (tester request)

#Dates

• Type the date instead of tapping through the calendar: a "Type a date" field now sits under the date picker in Task Details (start and due) and at the top of the Due Date sheet. Press Return after "tomorrow", "fri 3pm", "next friday", "oct 12", "in 2 weeks", or "3/14" and the picker jumps there; a time in the phrase turns Set Time on with it (tester request)

#Widgets

• A widget showing a board now lists its tasks under the column names in board order, the way Reminders divides a list into sections (tester request). The small widget stays a flat list
• Today, Upcoming, and date-based smart list widgets now include subtasks with a due date, the same rows the app shows in those lists (tester report: 19 upcoming in the app, 2 in the XL widget). A subtask row shows its parent task's name and opens the parent

#Stability

• Every iOS crash Apple collected over the past month was the same one: iOS put Kan Do to sleep while it still held the lock on the shared database, either during a background wake-up for a sync push or during a background read after a sync. Kan Do now asks iOS to wait until the lock is released

#Notes (Mac)

• Lines below the cursor could disappear after an edit that moved them, such as pressing Return at the front of a line, until the note was scrolled. The Mac editor now redraws the whole note after every change

#Mac Diagnostics

• If Kan Do on the Mac ever stops responding to typing or clicks until you quit and reopen it, the cause is now recorded. Settings ▸ Sync ▸ Diagnostics shows the count, with Reveal, Copy, and Clear for the log, so a bug report can include it

#Reminders

• Two new snooze buttons on task reminders: Snooze 1 Hour and Snooze Until Tonight (6 PM). Both bring the same reminder back later and leave the task alone, so a repeating task keeps its schedule (tester request: moving the reminder to tomorrow or a custom date broke the recurring rule). Snooze Until Tomorrow still moves the due date, so use the new buttons for repeating tasks
• New Widget Text Size slider in Settings ▸ Typography (80% to 160%), for bigger widget text without changing the rest of the phone (tester request). It stacks with the system text size below
• Widget text now follows your iPhone's text size setting (Settings ▸ Accessibility ▸ Display & Text Size), including the accessibility sizes, and task rows are a touch larger to match Reminders (tester report: the size setting did nothing). Each widget shows as many rows as your text size allows

#Notes

• Default Text Style now takes effect right away: changing it in Settings ▸ Typography while a note is open no longer leaves that note typing in the old style (tester report)
• Copy a task link without opening it: right-click on Mac, or press and hold on iPhone and iPad, any link in the chain-icon popover or the Links rows for Copy Link, Open, and Edit (tester request)

#Share Sheet

• Long shared text goes into the note in full, and the title gets its opening words with an ellipsis, so a shared paragraph is no longer crammed into one line (tester suggestion). Short single-line text still becomes the title

#Opening Your Data

• A lock file carried over by a backup restore or a new-phone transfer could leave Kan Do stuck on "Opening Your Data" with "system error 5" until the app was reinstalled. Kan Do now repairs that file itself, keeps it out of backups, and reports the real error if opening ever fails again

#iPhone Duo

• Kan Do is ready for iPhone Duo: the closed screen gets its own layout with the controls in the side rail, and the open screen gets the iPad layout with the sidebar and two full board columns
• The board's view toggle, Select, Archive, and Info are separate bar items now, so they move into the side rail instead of staying pinned in the top bar
• New Task is now the first button in the board's toolbar on every platform, replacing the floating + circle that covered the columns. The List / Kanban toggle moved into the Project Settings menu (renamed from Project Info) next to Reorder Columns
• Column Width, the drawing tool, reopening a drawing, full-screen notes, and the taller keyboard panel now follow the screen width instead of the device type, so an open iPhone Duo gets the full iPad experience
• With a task open beside the board, the bar keeps the board's name instead of switching to "Details"

#AI Assistants (MCP)

• Settings ▸ AI Assistants (MCP) now explains that the helper works with any assistant that supports MCP (Claude, ChatGPT and Codex, Cursor, and others) and shows ChatGPT/Codex setup alongside Claude (tester feedback)
• New connector tools: search tasks by title, tag, project, column, or note text; edit spaces, projects, and columns; delete a column. A column that still holds tasks is refused unless its tasks are archived first (tester feedback)

#Mac (macOS 27)

• Dragging a card on the board works from the moment the app opens. On macOS 27 the drop area for column reordering sat on top of the columns at launch and swallowed every card drag until a task was opened (tester reports from macOS 27 and the 27.2 beta). Column reordering now uses the columns themselves and the Add Column button as targets
• Dragging a column by its title works again on a board that has an archived column; the reorder used to be refused silently

#Notes editor (tester batch)

• Dragging an image or file into a note drops it where the pointer is: the cursor follows the drag, so you can see where the card will land (it used to land wherever the cursor last was)
• No more overlapping lines after dropping a tall image on the Mac; the text below re-lays out right away instead of after a scroll
• Cut, copy, and paste work on attachment cards on the Mac (⌘X / ⌘C / ⌘V). Pasting a copy of a card gives it its own stored file
• Backspace at the start of a bullet, numbered, or checklist line joins it to the line above without gluing the marker into the text, and the list below renumbers
• Turning a bullet or numbered line into a checklist or quote replaces the bullet instead of stacking the two, and the bullet button on a checklist line replaces the box

#Board and lists (tester batch)

• New in Settings ▸ General: Tapping Blank Column Space, either Dismiss Current Note (the default) or Create New Task. With Create New Task, a click or tap on empty column space adds a card at the bottom of that column and opens it, closing any open task first; close it without typing and it goes away again
• iPhone and iPad: the Add Task field no longer sits inside a faint lighter box at the bottom of each column
• Clicking the open card again closes its pane; selecting several cards closes it too
• When the task pane opens and would cover the selected card, the board scrolls that column into view. The + button does the same for its new task
• ⌘⌫ deletes a just-created task whose title or note is still empty, instead of doing nothing; in a smart list the new row is selected like a clicked one
• Task details: Add Cover Image offers Photo Library, Choose File, and Use Clipboard right from the details sheet. It used to open nothing on iPad and only the photo library on the Mac
• Task details: a Set Time toggle for Start Date and Due Date. A new due date starts as just the day, matching the context menu; turn on Set Time for a clock

#Notes editor (tester videos)

• Selecting several lines on the Mac highlights them as one block again; since 1.4.8 a multi-line selection looked like scattered underlines
• Pressing Return with the cursor in front of a list number, bullet, or box no longer stacks a second marker in front of the first. An empty item opens above and the cursor moves to the existing item's text
• Checklist lines stopped vanishing while typing on the Mac, and the text below a dropped picture stopped drawing over itself: the editor re-read the note after each autosave and pushed the same text back into the live view. Unchanged text is left alone, and a real change lays out and redraws the whole note at once
• Type "[]" and a space to start a to-do; "[x]" and a space starts one already checked off
• Move to-dos to subtasks: select checklist lines (or right-click one) and choose Move to Subtasks. In Subtasks, a subtask's menu offers Move to Note and Move All Subtasks to Note
• The toolbar's picture button asks Photo Library, Choose File…, or Use Clipboard instead of opening Photos only
• Mac: drag an attachment card out of a note to Finder, another note, or Mail. A click selects the card; a double-click still opens it

#Smart lists

• A task added by clicking empty space under a Manual-sorted list lands at the bottom instead of among the never-dragged rows

#Today, Upcoming, and Inbox

• Manual reordering works again on iPhone and iPad: with Sort By set to Manual, press and hold a task and drag it to a new spot, and it stays there. Before, the task sprang back to its old place the moment you let go, even though the new order was saved and showed up after a relaunch (tester video). The same fix applies inside the Past Due and Today sections and to a reorder synced from another device

#Smart Lists

• Tasks with a start date now show up in your own smart lists the same way they do in Today: a list with a Today, Tomorrow, This Week, Next Week, or date-range filter includes a task on every day from its start date through its due date (tester report: a task that had started was in Today but missing from "Today + Priority"). Overdue still goes by the due date alone. Widgets follow the same rule

#iPhone and iPad

• Tapping the empty space under a list or board column no longer starts a new task; that stays a Mac feature. On iPad, tapping empty space now closes the open task instead, the same as tapping between board columns
• The task pane's close button on iPad now points right, the direction the pane slides away (down stays for the iPhone sheet)
• Closing the task pane with a swipe on iPad is more forgiving: a slightly diagonal swipe or a quick flick now counts, and a two-finger swipe on the screen works as well as on the trackpad

#Cover Images

• Cover image size per project: Project Info now offers Left Strip (as before), Square, or Widescreen (16:9). Square and Widescreen sit across the top of the card with the task details below. Every card on that board follows the choice, on all your devices. The chooser shows a small preview card for each layout
• Use Clipboard: when a picture is on the clipboard, the cover image chooser offers it directly, alongside Photo Library and Choose File

#Notes

• Images in Notes (Settings ▸ Appearance): keep the compact cards, or choose Larger Previews to see the pictures themselves in the note. With previews on, right-click (Mac) or press and hold (iPhone, iPad) a picture to make it Small (a third of the note's width) or Large (the full width of the text). The choice is saved with the note, so every device shows it the same way
• Code blocks now sit on a rounded slab with breathing room around the text and clear space above and below the block; inline code and highlights get a snug rounded box around the words instead of a full-height strip (tester request)
• Text typed right after turning a line into a code block stays in the block

#Today and Calendar

• Tasks with a start date now join Today on the day they start and stay there every day through the due date, so Today works as a daily to-do list. They only turn overdue once the due date passes. Upcoming shows what hasn't started or come due yet
• The calendar shows a task on its start date (marked "Starts") as well as on its due date; drag the Starts chip to move the start date
• Tasks with a due time show the time on their calendar tile, in red once it has passed

#Recovery

• Restore from Local Backup: if Kan Do ever can't open its database, the recovery screen now offers this device's own verified backups (the daily snapshots plus the copies kept before Sync Repair or an iCloud re-download). Pick one, confirm, and Kan Do puts it back and opens; a copy of the database it replaced is kept first. Works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, and needs neither another device nor iCloud
• Changes made after the backup that already reached iCloud come back as sync catches up

#Smart Lists

• Dated subtasks now appear in your own smart lists whenever the list has a Date or Time filter (for example "Today + Priority"), the same way they already do in Today and Upcoming. The subtask is matched on its own due date; tags, priority, flag, and project come from its parent task

#Shortcuts

• Edit Task: change a task's title, subtitle, note, due date and time, priority, flag, link, tags, column, cover image, or completion from a shortcut. Fields you leave blank stay as they are
• Get Selected Tasks: returns whatever is selected in Kan Do right now, so a shortcut can act on the tasks you just picked
• Task links: every Task variable now has a Link property (kando://task/…), and a Get Task Link action returns it on its own
• Tag Names: Add Task and Edit Task accept tags as text, one per item, so tags can come from an earlier action. A name that matches nothing creates the tag
• Project Name: Add Task accepts the project as text, so a project from Find List or any earlier action drops straight in

#Fixes

• Exported project files now include each task's subtasks, and importing a file brings them back
• Dividers can be dragged again on iPhone and iPad: press and hold the line, then drag it between cards, the same way cards move. The old drag fought the scrolling column (and could crash on iPhone)
• iPad and Mac boards: cards now fade out above the Add Task field instead of showing through underneath it when a column is longer than the screen

#Widgets

• Extra Large widget: the Tasks widget comes in a fourth size that fills a whole Home Screen page on iPhone (iOS 27) and the wide extra-large size on iPad and Mac, with room for up to seventeen tasks in one column or eighteen across two
• Lock Screen widgets (iPhone and iPad): the Tasks widget now offers a rectangular size under the clock, showing the list's name, count, and first two tasks, and an inline size next to the date showing the count ("3 tasks"); tapping either opens that list

#Notes

• Text Color: pick a color for selected text (or for what you type next) from the new palette button in the formatting bar; Default restores the normal color, and colors stay in sync across your devices
• Highlight now offers six colors instead of just yellow; None removes a highlight
• The "more tools" menu keeps bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, and code as checkable toggles that stay open, so bold and underline can be applied to one selection in a single visit
• A to-do item starts with a capital letter, the way a sentence does, as soon as you type after the checkbox

#Adding tasks

• A brand-new task closed with nothing entered goes away again instead of lingering as a blank "New Task", from every entry point (column menu, the + buttons, ⌘N, the sidebar)
• Mac: Escape while naming a brand-new task backs out of creating it; on an existing task, Escape in the title or subtitle closes the pane

#Fixes

• Tasks created or edited through the MCP connector now sync through iCloud right away while Kan Do is running, instead of waiting for the next relaunch

#Drag and drop

• Drag a task card onto a project in the sidebar to move it there (it lands in the same column the + button uses), onto a tag to apply that tag, or onto Inbox to send it back to the Inbox
• Drag an email out of Mail into a note on the Mac and it becomes a card showing the subject; click the card to open the message in Mail, and the link is added to the task's Links as well
• Column reordering now shows a vertical accent line between columns where the column will land, with no green "copy" badge, and a column can be dropped past the last column to move it to the end
• Completed tasks that stay on the board can be dragged to another column

#Typography

• Settings ▸ Typography ▸ Default Text Style chooses the style a new note starts in: Body, Title, Heading, or Subheading
• Pressing Return at the end of a Title, Heading, or Subheading line starts the next line in Body instead of carrying the heading style forward
• Choosing a style on an empty line now applies to what you type next
• New Column Icons slider sets the size of the symbol in each column header

#Notes

• Numbered lists keep their text aligned past item 9 ("10." no longer pushes its text to the right)
• Numbered lists always count from 1, so deleting the first item no longer leaves a list starting at 2
• Backspace right after a bullet or number removes the whole marker instead of leaving a stray "2." glued to the text
• Email and web addresses become links as you type them (and when pasted), so an email address in a note is clickable like a phone number

#Fixes

• With Move to Archive on, a completed card now fades out after its strikethrough draws, and the cards below slide up smoothly into its place (board, project list, and smart lists)
• Escape in the Add Task field discards what was typed and leaves the field
• iOS: paste into the Add Task field (a long press there no longer opens the column menu)
• iOS: shake to undo works for completing, deleting, and duplicating tasks
• Clicking into a task's title or subtitle places the cursor where you clicked instead of selecting the whole text
• Mac: the task detail pane can no longer squeeze the list or board beside it to a sliver in a narrow window

#Sync

• Settings ▸ Sync names each item hidden by a sync conflict and offers Merge Duplicate Copies: a snapshot is saved first, the most complete copy is kept, its boards, columns, tasks, subtasks, attachments, and tags are moved onto it, and the extras are removed so every device converges. It never runs on its own

• Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Open at Launch gains Main Navigation, which opens the sidebar with nothing selected

#Siri and Shortcuts

• The Kan Do icon shown next to tasks, projects, and columns in Siri and Shortcuts follows the system's light or dark appearance

#Siri

• Siri on iOS 27 and macOS 27 can now create, update, complete, and delete Kan Do tasks by voice, and answer questions about them: "Add a task to Kan Do called call the plumber tomorrow", "Mark it as completed", "What's due today in Kan Do?"
• Projects are Siri's lists and columns are its sections, so "add a task to my Website project" and "put it in the Doing column" work
• Tasks, projects, and columns are indexed for Siri and Spotlight with their titles, notes, and tags; tapping a result opens the task or project in Kan Do
• Siri actions stay out of the Shortcuts app, which keeps the richer Add Task and Complete Task actions

#Shortcuts

• The Add Task action gains a Photos field: pass pictures from Select Photos or Take Photo and each becomes an image attachment on the task

#Widgets

• The widget's List setting now offers the Inbox, every smart list you've made, and every project, alongside Today, Upcoming, and Flagged
• A smart list in the widget uses the same rules as the sidebar, including nested tags and Include / Exclude filters, and picks up name, icon, and color changes right away

• A bar now sits above the keyboard: Undo, Redo, a formatting button, Hide Keyboard, and Link
• The formatting button (Aa) swaps the keyboard for a panel of keys: Outdent and Indent, bulleted and numbered lists, To-Do, Block Quote, the Style menu (Title, Heading, Subheading, Body), Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Highlight, Code, Code Block, Link, Separator, Image, Attach File, Drawing (iPad) or Print, plus Delete, Space, Return, and Hide Keyboard; ABC or the keyboard key brings the keyboard back
• Panel keys behave exactly like the top bar and the keyboard: Return continues a list, Delete clears a to-do box, Bold and friends light up when the cursor is in that style
• The text cursor is now the height of the text beside it; it used to stretch to the full line spacing

#Task Completion per project

• Project Info gains a Task Completion setting: App Setting, Keep on Board, or Move to Archive, so a kanban-style board can keep finished cards while your list-style projects sweep them to the Archive
• Settings ▸ Task Completion now says that a project's own choice overrides it; switching a project to Move to Archive archives its already-completed tasks, like the app-wide setting does
• The choice is a device preference, like Sort By; widget check-offs honor it too

#Apple Watch

• The Add Task shortcut action and "Add a task to Kan Do" with Siri now run on Apple Watch. Shortcuts only runs an action on the wrist when the Watch app itself provides it; the Watch app now does (title, subtitle, project, column, due date and time, Alert Until Done, priority, flag, link, note). Tasks land in the watch's store and sync through iCloud

#Fixes

• Giving an Inbox task a date now moves it out of the Inbox: it shows in Today or Upcoming only, and the Inbox count no longer includes it
• Today can be sorted by hand again when it shows Past Due and Today sections (or Group by Time sections): each section reorders on its own and the order sticks

#Editing spaces, projects, columns, tags, and smart lists

• The editor's title is edited right at the top, next to the icon; the separate name box is gone

#Import

• Settings ▸ Import can now send Reminders to the Inbox, alongside an existing project or a new one

#Share sheet

• "Couldn't Save" no longer shows the storage engine's wording. If the app was just updated and hasn't been opened yet, the sheet says so and asks you to open Kan Do once; if the database was briefly busy, it asks you to try again in a moment
• The share sheet retries a busy database for up to a second before reporting anything

• Settings ▸ Sidebar Smart Lists can hide the Smart Lists section and the Tags section, and a new Sidebar Order group puts Spaces, Smart Lists, and Tags in whatever order you like
• Settings ▸ Typography gains Smart List Size, Smart List Line Height, Tag Size, and Tag Line Height sliders; the size sliders scale that section's text and icons together, like the Space and Project sizes

#Task history

• Task Details gains a History section: Created, and when they apply, Completed, Archived, and Restored dates; the archive and restore dates are recorded from now on, whether a task is archived by hand, by completing it under Move to Archive, or brought back from the archive
• Restoring a task from the archive always marks it incomplete again
• Task Details now shows Tags above Board Location
• Storage version 6: two new optional dates on tasks; older builds keep syncing and never read them

#Checking off

• Checking a task off now blooms a sparkle burst around the bubble, and the row stays a beat to show its strikethrough even when Task Completion is set to Move to Archive
• To-do checkboxes in notes are larger, thicker, and rounded, and fill with your accent color when checked; notes are stored exactly as before

#Boards

• Drag a column by its title (click-drag on Mac, long press on iPhone and iPad) onto another column to reorder
• Typing in a column's Add task field and then tapping the blue + finishes that task in that column and opens it, instead of opening a blank task in the default column
• A duplicated task scrolls into view if it lands below the fold
• A long column no longer jumps back up after you add a task; it also no longer springs back after a card's long-press menu (both came from the same remembered-scroll-position bug)
• Focusing the Add task field under a long column scrolls the last card up first, so the new task has room to land
• Deleting a repeating task now asks whether to delete only this occurrence (the next one is still created on schedule) or all future occurrences
• Mac: the first click on a task's title or subtitle places the cursor; it used to take two clicks
• Notes: pasting a link then pressing ⌘Z undoes it cleanly, and the divider button works right after a large paste; both now go through the editor's own undo bookkeeping
• Notes on iPhone rubber-band even when short, so a pull shows there's nothing more

#Alert Until Done

• Remind Every is now set per task: each task's slide-out has its own cadence (Every 30 Minutes, Every Hour, Every 3 Hours, Every Day) and a Default choice that follows the app-wide setting; before, changing it in one task changed every task
• Settings ▸ General gains "Alert Until Done Reminds", the default cadence for tasks that don't set their own
• The Add Task shortcut action has a matching Remind Every field
• Storage version 5: one new optional field on tasks; devices still on 1.3.x keep syncing and keep using their app-wide cadence

#Share sheet

• Save to Kan Do works again: since 1.3.8 the share sheet always said "Open Kan Do once, then try sharing again" because it checked your database against the previous version's layout

#Notes

• Paste a picture into a note and it becomes an attachment card: screenshots from Zoom's or macOS's capture tool, Copy Image in Safari or Preview, or an image file copied in Finder; on iPhone and iPad the Paste menu now appears for a copied picture too

#Connector

• When an older copy of the kando connector meets a newer database, the error now says to use the connector inside the current Kan Do app (Settings ▸ Connector) instead of asking you to rebuild it

#Sync

• "Items hidden by a sync conflict" now clears on its own: when two devices complete the same repeating task while offline, each creates the identical next occurrence, and every device used to hide both copies forever; the app now keeps the same copy everywhere and removes the spare after the next sync
• If the app cannot open your data at launch, the retry screen now shows the technical reason and logs each failed attempt

#Widgets

• Widgets now refresh as soon as a change syncs in from another device, instead of waiting behind the app's search-index and reminder passes
• Closing Kan Do pushes any pending widget refresh out immediately, while the app is still allowed to refresh widgets without limit; refreshes that fire after the app is in the background can be held back by iOS for a long time
• Refreshes coalesce after one second instead of two

#Shortcuts: Add Task

• New Due Date & Time field for variables that already carry a time, such as a calendar event's start date; the date-only Due Date picker drops the time from such variables, so use this field for imported events
• New Alert Until Done toggle
• The Column list shows every column labeled with its project and space, in sidebar order, so you can pick a column without choosing a Space or Project first; choosing a Space narrows the list to its projects, choosing a Project narrows it to that project
• Searching the Column list also matches project and space names

#Move to

• Move to in a task's long-press menu and in the Select bar opens a full-screen picker at larger accessibility text sizes, with Inbox, every space and project, and a search field; the old submenu could show only two or three rows there and gave no hint that the rest scrolled, so spaces looked missing
• At regular text sizes the submenu works as before, with a new Choose Destination… item at the top that opens the same picker when you have many spaces
• Picking a project then a column moves the task and closes the picker; Cancel leaves everything as it was

#Nested tags

• Right-click or long-press a tag in the sidebar and choose New Nested Tag to add a tag inside it, or Nest Under to move an existing tag inside another one (Top Level moves it back out)
• The tag editor has a new Nested Under menu, so you can pick a parent while naming a tag and choosing its icon and color
• Parent tags show a chevron in the sidebar; tap it to fold or unfold their nested tags, and Kan Do remembers what you folded on each device
• Selecting a parent tag shows tasks carrying it or any tag nested under it, and the sidebar count does the same
• Filter by Tag on boards, lists, and the calendar treats a parent tag the same way, and nested tags read indented in those menus
• Add Tag in a task's context menu opens nested tags as submenus; the parent itself stays on the first line so it can still be added
• Dragging a tag in the sidebar reorders it among its siblings and carries its nested tags with it
• Deleting a tag also deletes the tags nested under it (the confirmation says so)
• Claude and the connector see nested tags as Parent/Child paths in list_tags, and can create a whole path such as Work/Clients/Acme in one go
• Shortcuts show a nested tag's full path so two tags with the same name are easy to tell apart

#Projects and spaces

• Projects and spaces have a Notes field in their editor, under the name; it stays in the editor and is empty until you write something
• Duplicate Project and Export no longer fail with "This project changed while Kan Do was preparing the export" on stores that hold a stray row somewhere else (a leftover divider or column from an old sync); only the board being copied is checked now

#Today

• Group by Time in the Today list's menu splits it into Overdue, Morning, Afternoon, Tonight, and Any Time (tasks due today with no time), like Reminders; off by default and remembered per device

#Notes

• The pencil for editing a link now sits right after the link's last character, on the correct line even when the link wraps, with a bigger tap target; it opens an Edit Link card with Title and Address, Remove Link, Cancel, and Done, like Bear

#New Task

• A task started from the Action Button, a widget's +, the home-screen quick action, or the New Task shortcut is discarded again if you close it without typing anything, instead of leaving an empty "New Task" behind

#Reminders

• The task slide-out's due chip now shows the time as well as the date whenever the task has one
• Alert Until Done can repeat every 30 minutes or every day, in addition to hourly and every 3 hours
• Snoozing, completing, or rescheduling a task on one device now quiets it on your other iPhones and iPads within seconds: as soon as the change syncs, each device reschedules its own alerts in the background instead of waiting until you open the app there

• Pick Date & Time… from a task's context menu now opens at full height on iPhone, so the calendar, Set Time, and the Cancel/Set buttons are all visible

• Give a task a place: type a business name or an address in the task's details and pick from the suggestions (allow location access to see places near you)
• A map-pin badge on cards, rows, and at the top of the task shows which tasks have a location
• On iPhone, turn on "Notify When Arriving" or "Notify When Leaving" under the due date and Kan Do reminds you when you get there or head out (this needs "Always" location access; Kan Do never stores or shares your location)

#Calendar

• A new Calendar smart list beside Inbox, Today, Upcoming, and Flagged shows every task and subtask with a due date on a month grid or a week view
